Note this video shows the fuel pressure regulator in the wrong position.
After the body was fitted it had to be moved to the far offside position along the chassis cross rail.

I'm not impressed with the auto focus. It was shot with my new Nikon Z50 camera which shoots 4k video, but I used a low res setting to keep the file size down.
It seems not to be as smooth as AK's video, but it shows the chassis complete and ready for body fitting.

Note I have used some neoprene rubber strips from CBS. I blagged this idea from 'Steves AK Cobra Build' blog. Reason is that I hate silicon sealant. But also I will fit the body, hopefully, just the once. But if it turns out to be just a test fitting and I have to remove it, I can. This is very much about the exhaust fitting and I'm not sure how that is going to work out.

  1. Morning Terry, the rolling chassis tour video is really useful! I have watched the AK one many times and yours as well now. Quick question, do you know the model number or dimensions of the k&n air filter? Was going to see if I could get a comparative size cone one from them.

    1. Hi Rich, The air filter came from AK and I have chucked the box now so I don't have a model number. The dimensions are: length of the filter not including the fitting flange:150.3mm. External circumference:550mm Which means an external diameter of 175mm. The chrome air inlet from AK has a external circumference of:320mm (dia=102mm). A cone shape will have less surface area so be careful with air flow.
      Some notes:
      I have now fitted the body and found the fuel reg had to be moved as it interfered with the heater hose connections. I'll update the relevant sections.
      If you are using a LS3 with Corvette headers from Roadcraft or Ebay, and your body was made less than about 12-15 months ago, there may be issues with clearance to the nearside exhaust headers. Check with Jon at AK if you think you may be affected.

  2. Cheers Terry, thanks for the info. I assume the intake pipe in centered in the filter (cross section wise). K&n seem to have a large selection of off centered filters to confuse matters.

    In regards to air filter surface area do you have any info on suggest area Vs engine capacity. Maybe I'm too curious

    In answer to the comment about the exhaust headers, yes I have Corvett ones from road craft. My body was made late autumn 2018, so I might fall into the category... Do you know what the solution is? How challenging is it

  3. Hi Rich. The air filter is concentric with the inlet tube. I don't have any info about air filter size, I just fit the one AK supplied. If you want to use a conical one, I suggest you fit it, it won't stop the engine working, just may affect power up the rev range. I guess you will be taking it to a dyno to have the ECU fettled? You can check the outcome there and change it if it makes a difference.
    Regarding the body, you may be ok if it was made Aug '18. The way to check is to look at the two footwells from inside the engine bay. The passenger one should be shorter and not protrude so far as the drivers side. Put a straight edge against the fron face of the driver's footewwell. The passenger one should be 1-2 inches back. If it is the same on both sides then you have a modified one that may clash with the exhaust header. I'll post the fix in a day or two, but if you are urgent call Jon to discuss.

    1. Thanks for the information in regards to the foot well. I didn't measure the distance but the passenger side bulkhead is further back than the drivers side bulkhead. Maybe I'm just lucky here, but I guess I will learn more when I fit the headers.

      Are you planning on fitting the body before a first engine fire up?

  4. Hi, I haven't run the engine, too much faff to temporarily wire and connect it all up. I was going to remove the plugs and spin the engine to see oil pressure but didn't even do that. I'll wait till it is ready to go and hit the start button. What could possibly go wrong.
